This will cover rubric creation and implementation, how rubrics can be incorporated into the writing and curricular process. I will also discuss how to hand back a paper so that students read and understand teacher comments. Attendees are invited to bring their favorite rubric or writing graphic organizer. Breakout sessions will be provided.
The flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and moving “homework” into the classroom. In this workshop teachers will learn about the benefits of offering flipped classroom style lessons. Teachers will be introduced to examples and resources for how the flipped classroom model is being applied by teachers around the world. At the end of the session, teachers will be given guidance on how to make their own flipped videos.
This will be a place for 5th grade teachers to talk and exchange ideas. Because this is a job alike session, the topics will vary. Questions will be prepared to prompt conversations, and Google Docs available to share and collaborate. The Google Docs may include forms, docs, and spreadsheets, and will allow us to walk away knowing we have resources. Topic ideas include Places to Share and Support and would include Edmodo (I moderate a grade five group on Edmodo), Twitter, Google+, Facebook, and more.
Take part in this National History Day (NHD) workshop to learn concrete ways to infuse the Social Studies curriculum with the skills central to 21st century education and to empower students as historians, elevating Social Studies learning to new levels. This workshop will focus on the use of primary sources and historical research in the development of NHD projects. We'll also examine NHD themes, and review past entries.
Collaboration: the action of working with someone to produce or create something. What can collaboration look like in elementary classrooms using Google Apps? How can you improve workflow and become more efficient in using Google Apps in your classroom? Sign up for this session and find out how you can use Google Apps to help your students create and produce work collaboratively as well as improve the workflow in your classroom. Learn how to electronically "photocopy" assignments and share them with your students with Google Scripts. NOTE: You will need a MacBook or other laptop to create scripts in Google Apps.

Through the use of the Hermann Brain Dominance Instrument, participants will gain an insight into their own ways of looking at the world around them, and the implications for their work and lives in and outside of school.
This workshop will focus on pushing back against extreme cultural relativism that students may adopt out of response to "global citizenship" and "international mindedness" educational initiatives.
