This presentation on "coding on the iPad" will give you a glimpse into the wonderful world of fun computational thinking, logical problem solving, and the concepts behind the computer programs that fill our world.
This presentation focuses on using iPads for coding on your own or teaching coding to students. Programming can be brought into the K-12 classroom with the use of iPads! Attendees will have a tour of the best apps on coding on the iPad. Tips on how to start a coding club will also be discussed.

The flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and moving “homework” into the classroom. In this workshop teachers will learn about the benefits of offering flipped classroom style lessons. Teachers will be introduced to examples and resources for how the flipped classroom model is being applied by teachers around the world. At the end of the session, teachers will be given guidance on how to make their own flipped videos.
This will be a place for 5th grade teachers to talk and exchange ideas. Because this is a job alike session, the topics will vary. Questions will be prepared to prompt conversations, and Google Docs available to share and collaborate. The Google Docs may include forms, docs, and spreadsheets, and will allow us to walk away knowing we have resources. Topic ideas include Places to Share and Support and would include Edmodo (I moderate a grade five group on Edmodo), Twitter, Google+, Facebook, and more.
Collaboration: the action of working with someone to produce or create something. What can collaboration look like in elementary classrooms using Google Apps? How can you improve workflow and become more efficient in using Google Apps in your classroom? Sign up for this session and find out how you can use Google Apps to help your students create and produce work collaboratively as well as improve the workflow in your classroom. Learn how to electronically "photocopy" assignments and share them with your students with Google Scripts. NOTE: You will need a MacBook or other laptop to create scripts in Google Apps.

This session will introduce participants to a classroom activity that connects the unit circle to the sine and cosine graphs. Participants will construct the sine and cosine graph by measuring the horizontal and vertical distance of each angle on the unit circle. When used int the classroom, this exercise helps students connect and better understand the two trigonometric ratios to their graphs.
iBooks Author is a powerful tool for my students to digitally document their learning process and their creation, whether it would be a video, a song, written work, photos, or even games. In this session, I will be sharing some of my students' iBooks and some basic features of iBooks Author to help you see why it is a powerful tool for student learning and reflection.

Come find out how a great piece of music moves you and why it can evoke such vivid, powerful feelings and memories, even years after you first hear it. In this advanced Keynote session you will learn to make your presentation more effective by creating advanced animations using the using magic move, creative transitions, and action tools. Come prepared to learn these tools, which require creativity, patience, and the willingness to learn techniques that will have you spending up to an hour per slide. You must be very comfortable with Keynote or you will be lost in this session. There will be an introduction to the techniques and then an opportunity to explore their uses and build you own slides. How could AP Calculus AB be a little bit more fun? It has always seemed a rather dry class to me. In this presentation, I will introduce some attempts at bringing variety to the course with activities and projects my students worked on as well as strategies I used to deliver the material and prepare for the exam.
I will share my experiences using MacBook and iPad with lower elementary students. We will look into Essential Agreements for students prior to using a new expensive device and how to balance their time with the use of the technology. I will introduce applications/programs and instructional ideas that have been successful in my classes.
This workshop will show strategies such as flipping the classroom, allowing students to create essential questions, and socratic seminars to allow the students to take ownership of their learning and therefore having them become independent learners. But first we will discuss ways to create a classroom where the students will buy into them being part of the process and want to be part of the class not just a visitor.
Remember Diigo? The cloud-based bookmarking tool? Well, they've been busy. Diigo is now an invaluable research tool as well. Find out how to take your students to the next level as they collect, store, tag and share information throughout their academic careers. This is an introductory class.
This non-professional (but highly valuable!) workshop will focus on the frequent flyer who wants to learn the basics of how to collect and spend miles while flying. We will go over the basics of the airline alliances, and will cover strategies for how to set yourself up to maximize your travel awards.

Apple iMovie can be an excellent tool for students to spread awareness about global and local issues, as well as show evidence of their learning. In this workshop, teachers will learn to create their own short news videos using basic features like adding photos, music, transitions, maps and text. Teachers will also practice using advanced features from iMovie such as picture-in-picture, cutaway and green screen.
Hands on calculating with the TI-Nspire CAS and CX calculators. Topics to be presented: How to create scatterplots with lines of best fit, Solving systems of equations for both linear and quadratic equations, Regression formula solutions, Matrices. Time will be given for experimenting with other features as well. TI-Nspire CAS software for teachers will also be used in the presentation.
This session provides an overview of a one-hour introduction to computer programming called the Hour of Code. Programming is an effective tool teachers can use to develop students’ critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making skills. Come play a guitar on your keyboard, record a narration with various microphones, and explore the power of GarageBand as you will be provided with a MacBook to use during this session or you can use the app on your iPhone or iPad.
This workshop will demonstrate how to "flip" the math classroom using easily available (free) tools like Google Sites and Educreations iPad app. In addition to demonstrating how to create lessons we will discuss the philosophy behind the flipped classroom model, best practices, and troubleshooting issues. Resources for flipped classrooms will be provided in the session. The focus is the math classroom but many of the tools and techniques can be used in other subject areas as well.

The original Maker Faire attracted over 150,000 people this year and has inspired hundreds of Maker Faires like it around the world in what has been dubbed the "Maker Movement". Progressive educators have connected with the like-minded ideals of: creativity, play, hands-on-learning, community, and a DIY attitude championed by the Maker Movement. The presentation will focus on connecting you with the reasons for building one + the nuts & bots of building it.
Teachers will learn to use Socrative, a free online device-agnostic student response system, to create fun formative assessments such as polls, games, and exit tickets. Teachers will participate in exercises to see Socrative from the student perspective, and then create an exercise to take with them. They will be given tips on reviewing data and streamlining the acitivity-creation process.

The layered curriculum is an approach to teaching where students progress through sequentially more challenging assignments at their own pace. I will share information and experience about the layered curriculum and offer sample layered units. I will have break out groups for participants to brainstorm ideas for a layered unit within their subject areas.
This workshop explores the history and effectiveness of the Critical Friend approach to improving instructional practice. This presentation begins with a look back over the beginnings of this model, and moves on to providing all the information and tools you need to get started today. You will leave well informed and ready to both give and receive the support of a Critical Friend!
With 100 hours of content uploaded every minute, You Tube is a fantastic resource. Do not just search for videos, use it to its full potential. 1) How can I find useful and appropriate content? 2) How can I subscribe to a channel and create playlist? 3) How can I share content? 4) How can I create my own content? 5) Privacy issue: how can I create private channel and playlist?
I plan to share a host of interactive websites for you to use in your lesson plans. Students (and teachers) can use these websites to make unique creations that enable learning to be memorable and permanent. These websites will assist teachers and students with such things as collaboration, management, mind mapping, photo editing, presentation, research, and search tools.
