This workshop is geared towards current physical educators, basketball, and volleyball coaches. Coaches and Physical Educators are encouraged to bring their favorite drill for volleyball or basketball to share with the group. Drills will be taught, practiced, and discussed as a group with equal time being given to basketball and volleyball drills.

Through the eyes of the subject of Physical Education, and dance in particular, you will be shown how various technology tools can be used in an educational setting. We will be looking at padlet, QR codes, youtube capture, youtube playlist and google drive. The knowledge gained can be applied into any subject setting and is not restricted to PE only. It is recommended to bring your own iPad with QR code reader (i.e Inigma).
The flipped classroom inverts traditional teaching methods, delivering instruction online outside of class and moving “homework” into the classroom. In this workshop teachers will learn about the benefits of offering flipped classroom style lessons. Teachers will be introduced to examples and resources for how the flipped classroom model is being applied by teachers around the world. At the end of the session, teachers will be given guidance on how to make their own flipped videos.
Participants will learn the process of using Notability and Dropbox to help students reflect on their learning, and how using the tools in an integrated way to collect formative assessments for teachers.
After taking this workshop, participants will be able to: Link Student Notability creations to Dropbox accounts ; Create systems of organisation to manage content created in Notability.

Specifically, the advantages/disadvantages of segregated vs. mixed gender P.E classes will be discussed. This session will also provide an opportunity to share current research in the field of gender and physical education in the international school context.

In this workshop we will be looking at assessment in the subject of Physical Education, the Middle Years Program in particular. How are we assessing conceptual learning, how do we assess commitment, cooperation and communication? How do we know if students have understood our units and are meeting the criteria? Do bring your own examples of assessment, preferably on a hard copy and digitally. We will share experiences and learn from each other on how our assessment can be improved.

Apple iMovie can be an excellent tool for students to spread awareness about global and local issues, as well as show evidence of their learning. In this workshop, teachers will learn to create their own short news videos using basic features like adding photos, music, transitions, maps and text. Teachers will also practice using advanced features from iMovie such as picture-in-picture, cutaway and green screen.
Learn about the creative possibilities of integrating a music/audio recording technology component to attract a wider body of students and engage them in project-based learning in your subject area. Come play a guitar on your keyboard, record a narration with various microphones, and explore the power of GarageBand as you will be provided with a MacBook to use during this session or you can use the app on your iPhone or iPad.
The original Maker Faire attracted over 150,000 people this year and has inspired hundreds of Maker Faires like it around the world in what has been dubbed the "Maker Movement". Progressive educators have connected with the like-minded ideals of: creativity, play, hands-on-learning, community, and a DIY attitude championed by the Maker Movement. The presentation will focus on connecting you with the reasons for building one + the nuts & bots of building it.
Teachers will learn to use Socrative, a free online device-agnostic student response system, to create fun formative assessments such as polls, games, and exit tickets. Teachers will participate in exercises to see Socrative from the student perspective, and then create an exercise to take with them. They will be given tips on reviewing data and streamlining the acitivity-creation process.
What would it take for you to consider a change in your teaching methods to provide your students with a different approach to learning? Several years ago, I felt the need to increase student engagement in my classroom and started implementing the flipped classroom methodology. This session will provide you with some tools to assist you to change your classroom dynamics and enhance your students' learning.
The layered curriculum is an approach to teaching where students progress through sequentially more challenging assignments at their own pace. I will share information and experience about the layered curriculum and offer sample layered units. I will have break out groups for participants to brainstorm ideas for a layered unit within their subject areas.
This workshop explores the history and effectiveness of the Critical Friend approach to improving instructional practice. This presentation begins with a look back over the beginnings of this model, and moves on to providing all the information and tools you need to get started today. You will leave well informed and ready to both give and receive the support of a Critical Friend!
With 100 hours of content uploaded every minute, You Tube is a fantastic resource. Do not just search for videos, use it to its full potential. 1) How can I find useful and appropriate content? 2) How can I subscribe to a channel and create playlist? 3) How can I share content? 4) How can I create my own content? 5) Privacy issue: how can I create private channel and playlist?
I plan to share a host of interactive websites for you to use in your lesson plans. Students (and teachers) can use these websites to make unique creations that enable learning to be memorable and permanent. These websites will assist teachers and students with such things as collaboration, management, mind mapping, photo editing, presentation, research, and search tools.
