Elementary EAL Team Lead
Seoul, South Korea
Experienced EAL teacher from New Zealand. Working in an IB school of over 90% additional language learners but with little cultural diversity (majority Korean students). Lead a team of 6 EAL teachers. Use WIDA MODAL and WAPT, in conjunction with MAP testing and other classroom based assessments such as reading running records, to identify students with the lowest English proficiency levels. Base EAL lessons on the IBPYP language scope and sequence as well as WIDA Can Do Descriptors. Our programme model consists of pull-out and push-in. Collaborative planning sessions are scheduled weekly with the PYP coordinator, the grade level teachers and the EAL teacher all co-planning the Unit of Inquiry.
